CICO and the conservation of mass

So, I’m a proponent of CICO, but a thought occurred to me… if a pound of body fat is roughly equivalent to 3,500 calories, wouldn’t it be “impossible” for a food to have a calorie density higher than one gram to about 7.7 calories?

In other words, how is it possible for olive oil to have a calorie density of about 1 gram to 9 calories? I understand it’s basically pure fat, but how does, say, 1kg of olive oil translate into about 9000 calories, and then into over 2.2lbs of body fat? It’s close (about 2.5) but would seem to make more body fat than the mass of the food.

Nothing about this is going to change how I diet, I’m just wondering if anyone can slake my curiosity with a good physiological answer 😂
