1 week in. First goal achieved, 25 pounds to go. Gave myself til the end of Oct - too long?

I've never been overweight enough to care to diet - it always seemed really restrictive and frustrating, but hey - old dog new tricks.

I'm just straight reducing calories right now - still eating pretty much what i was before, just a good bit less. Essentially i'm now eating 2 meals of about 500kc each, and three 'snacks' of 50-100 a day - i don't want to be fussed about weighing and getting absolutely perfect calorie counts so i figured i'd cut hard and then even if i'm not accurate, i'm still at a deficit at 1400 or 1600kc.

Not having done any of this before, my main curiosity is: do i have to up the exercise for this to keep working? And is it bad to want to go really really slow with the losses so hopefully they stick permanently with the lifestyle change?
