I think I am too fat but all my friends tell me don't lose weight. Should I trust them?

I am 27M 174 cm 67 kg. 4 years ago I was at 62 kg. I want to return to 62 kg because I think I am too fat, and dropping weight may improve my race performance. When I was at 73 kg 3 years ago I had a massive drop in my running performance.

I want to train for marathon running and marathon swimming with triathlons in between. I have heard that losing weight can make me run faster and swim faster and climb up hills more easily on a bike. However, all my friends undoubtedly think that losing weight is a bad idea because it will make me too cold (hypothermia) in swimming and the speed gained won't compensate for that, and it's a common practice for people to do the exact opposite (gain weight) beforehand. My friend who did that gained 25 kg beforehand deliberately and I think it would be disgusting and unhealthy to do so.

What should I do beside continue training?
