I don’t recognise the person in the mirror

I gained a lot of weight when I hit a rough patch in my life and now that part is over (mostly). I’m in a good mindspace and my self esteem is getting higher everyday but it’s almost painful to look at myself in the mirror. What I look like is not what I feel like and it makes me feel... uncomfortable to say the least. I’m eating healthy but nothing too drastic, I’m exercising but nothing too intense and I’m getting used to healthy lifestyles. From past experience diets and gyms don’t work very well for me. But has anyone else felt this weird disconnect with your body? Almost like I want to cut off the excess fat and be done with it.
