Loose skin comes from loosing weight too fast. Myth or fact?

I’m losing roughly 1.5-2 pounds a week. I have quite a lot to lose to get to my goal weight. It seems very low but it’s actually still normal weight for my height. I want to lose it all before my birthday next March but I’m doing it in a healthy way so no more than 2 pounds a week. I am worried about loose skin though. When I did the research there’s different thoughts about it. People either say loose skin is genetic and predetermined as soon as you lose weight - it doesn’t matter how fast you lose it. Or people say it does come from how fast you lose it and if you pace yourself your skin has time to shrink, and also it can be prevented by drinking water and lotion. So which one is it?

Edit: spelled losing wrong in title lol
