No motivation the second time around

Hello again /r/loseit! I was fairly active on here a few years ago when I started my weight loss journey but unfortunately I’m back again looking for motivation and support as this sub was amazing back then.

A bit of background: I lost about 40 lbs (170-130) in 2017, and maintained that from about mid 2017-mid 2018 while toning up. Then an injury and a breakup led me to a downward spiral and I went back up to 140 lbs by the beginning of 2019. Over the course of 2019 between a cross country move, ANOTHER injury, and a new job I’m back up to 153 and back to all my old habits like binge eating and not being active.

Honestly I’m so frustrated with myself. The worst part isn’t even the weight gain, it’s that I can’t find the motivation this time around to change. Back in 2017 I really wanted to get healthy and learned all the science of CICO and started meal prepping and exercising a lot. Now three years later I feel like I’m back where I started but I just care less. I look in the mirror and hate what I see but I can’t find the motivation to actually stick to CICO. I’m conscious of what I eat now even though I wasn’t before but it’s like I don’t care. Oh that pasta is 200 calories vs spaghetti squash that’s 50? Oh well, whatever. Oh I’m injured and haven’t been able to work out for four months? Eh, it’s fine. I admit part of this discouragement may be due to my injuries but if I’m being honest even in between when I was doing better I still couldn’t find the same motivation to be strict with my diet. It just got to the point it was exhausting to think about and easier to just eat.

Sorry for the long rant, I’m feeling very frustrated and like none of the motivating techniques I had the first time around are working. The long point of this being, I remember this sub being incredibly helpful my first time around. Any advice for getting that motivation back from those who have back spiraled and gained weight back? Relatedly any advice (beyond just CICO) for weight loss when you can’t workout?

TLDR; gained half my hard earned weight loss back, feeling very discouraged and unmotivated this time around and looking for advice

Feeling skinny-fat, need encouragement

I'm a 22 year old 5'11 male weighing somewhere around 190-195 pounds, with somewhere around a 34-35 inch waist. I estimate my BF% at 20-23%. I'd like to cut that in half. The weight itself isn't that important to me.

I've been barbell strength training and running off and on for a little over a year. I've taken time off for injuries and also for lack of discipline. I started barbell training because I don't have a whole lot of muscle or strength (some, but not much, especially in my upper body). I started running to get better at passing my PT test and to burn more calories.

My problem is this: I can't eat enough to bulk up with muscle and then cut back body fat because it's going to make me super slow and also break the Air Force height and weight regs. But I also have a hard time strength training for an extended period of time on any substantial calorie deficit (15-20%), and it's mentally harder for me because I know I won't be getting nearly as much muscle gain while on a deficit. It's frustrating for me since I'm feeling impatient to get both a lot bigger and stronger as well as leaner. So, I've been yo-yoing between eating a surplus, maintenance, and a deficit. I'm also feeling discouraged because I know I have some substantial progress to regain in the gym before I start advancing.

What's my best strategy for losing body fat while making strength gains in the gym even if I can't make much muscle gain? Aside from adequate protein and enough sleep of course.

I should note I'm still very much a novice lifter, at my previous peak I could deadlift barely over 2 plates and my best squat was 210.

I can't seem to break this cycle of binging and fasting, can anyone help me?

This is my first time posting my problems to a non-ED subreddit, I hope you guys can understand how I feel.

I don't understand. All I have to do is just eat to satisfaction. Most people can do it. It's so simple, animals are literally evolved to do this. All I do is binge fast binge fast binge fast. I never feel well, when I binge I often throw up. When I fast I do it until I'm afraid that I'm going to pass out.

I know how to lose weight healthily, I've been on a "diet" my whole life.

The only thing that's been successful is trying to stop dieting/fasting. I can eat normally for about a week straight. But I somehow always go back to either fasting/binging and the whole cycle starts again. I've probably "recovered" like 4 times now. This is the only thing I can see that may help me.. but I'm still binging and fasting.

Any help is fine, thank you.

Making time to exercise

Hi, I’m at the beginning of my weight loss journey (currently 5’4 and 160 lb, goal of 135lb) and I’m really struggling to find a way to fit regular exercise into my day. I am in college, meaning that I have classes throughout the day, and often commitments in the evenings, and though I have plenty of time in the schedule for a 30 minute workout, that workout comes with 10 minutes of changing into workout clothes, 5 minutes to walk to the gym, and at least 30 minutes to shower, get dressed, and reapply makeup if I’m planning on going back out, meaning that I struggle to find the time/energy daily to make it work. Does anyone have advice on how to help with this?

Tldr: Exercise is hard to do if it comes with 45 minutes of extra work besides, how do you do it?

Sick of the constant hunger

I’ve dieted on and off for 3 years. I’ve done a few different diets, and no matter what, I can feel the caloric deficit. Nothing I’ve eaten doesn’t make me feel it. I mean, I’ve still lost 150 lbs over the few years, but I still have like 50 to lose. Ever time I’ve actually stuck with a diet, I’ve been starving. That’s usually why it’s taken me so long and it’s kind of on and off dieting. Like I can’t mentally handle being starving for more than a couple of months at a time. It really gets to my head and I feel like I just become a shitty person after a while. I can’t wait til I’m in a position to where I can just maintain my weight. Is it like this for anyone else. Or is this just me lmfao.

I am disheartened.

I don’t use reddit a lot so I’m sorry if this isn’t allowed but I just need to vent a bit. I don’t have a lot of stats. I’m 21F/5’5”/177lb. I’ve lost 20lb in the last year by playing tennis almost every day. After years of battling depression, saying I’d lose weight and then not doing anything different , I decided at the beginning of this month that enough is enough. I’ve lost 4ish lbs in a few weeks but lately it’s started to fluctuate up again. Today I was feeling really good about myself, just because I’ve been hitting the gym or playing tennis almost every day and making better choices in my food.

Cut to babysitting my 5y/o niece this evening and she calls me fat. Trust me I know I’m overweight and I know she’s a little kid but goodness I feel so discouraged again. I want to start eating better as well as exercising but I think I only have the capacity to add one life change at a time for now.

Anyway, I’m thankful for all the reddit communities and people that have encouraged and posted their progress giving me something to look forward to.
